I received this as an email attachment recently and had to share it ... love the message ... As you know, 'Thinking Outside the Square' is our motto!
: Think outside the square:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is
about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your
life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming
about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing
that there could only be one passenger in your car? Think before you continue
reading.
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually
used as part of a job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she
is going to die, and thus you should save her first. Or you could take the old
friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to
pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate
again.
The candidate who was hired (out of 200
applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. He simply answered: 'I
would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the
hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my
dreams.'
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our
stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to 'Think Outside of the Square.'

Just received this letter from the Starlight Foundation ...
A huge THANK YOU to all of you who either hosted a Star Party, or set up a Star Party online donation page. Your time and efforts helped to contribute towards a most fantastic total of over
Amazingly, most of our top fundraisers were individuals that hosted cocktail parties or a ball or some other kind of event. Our schools also raised some excellent funds with simple ideas such as selling icy poles or dressing up or down for the day. Many individuals hosted a bbq or lunch at home or at work and were concerned that they had “…only raised $50”. As you can see, every $50 assists in raising our much needed funds. Where will your funds go?
* $500 takes Captain Starlight into the wards to visit 70 children
* $1000 buys a family a weekend escape
* $2500 funds 400 visits by children to a Starlight Express Room
(Incidentally, TKTN raised close to $350 - thank you to all).
So as you can see, the amount you have all raised with your time and efforts will touch a lot of children’s lives and the lives of their families who have to undertake the difficult journey of illness with them. Together, you HAVE made a difference. Further images from our Starlight Day campaign in May can be viewed here.
We do, however, have to continue to reach towards our goal of reaching more children every day. Our website has is now stocking Starlight Christmas cards so perhaps this year have a look at personalising your Christmas cards. See here.
Kind regards

I am proud of myself. And I am proud of my friends.
Because in most cases, if you were to see Lorraine Ewing-Bowman, Jackie and me sitting around a table, steam billowing from freshly brewed coffee (or, as it was in this case, tea) the banter would be lively; the laughter plentiful. Amongst the mix of accents ~ Lorraine is Scottish; Jackie's English and I'm Australian born and bred ~ the opportunity to get a word in edgewise is generally limited.
However, seat us around a table where Lorraine is functioning in the capacity of our Business Coach and the situation is very different. And, I must admit, our diligence at sticking to the task at hand has taken me somewhat by surprise! Of course, there is still a little room for fun and joking but mostly we adhere to our agenda and manage to cover all areas set for discussion by the end of our session. This has taught me a big lesson this week ...
The importance of being focused. Taking aim; taking issue; taking action. Not forever, just for a specified time. It's so much easier that way.
We are ALL busy women and I'm the first to put my hand up and nominate as sometimes having a brain so overwhelmed by duties that, in the muddle of my mind, there are days I actually end up achieving very little. At these times, when I'm running around like a chook with its head cut off, I'm now going to ask myself 'Busy doing what?'. And then pinpoint what needs to be done. Find my focus.
By setting a time frame to concentrate ~ to focus ~ on just one thing, issues are able to be addressed and dealt with without the clutter of 'all the other stuff'. I am now applying this to other areas ... like the clean up of my messy study.
With all that creative energy being focused solely on the business of The Kitchen Table Network, the proliferation of ideas and the simple resolution of outstanding issues has astounded us. The lessons each of us takes away from any situation are personal and perhaps this is one that Lorraine doesn't even realise she has gifted me with this week ... The Importance of Being Focused.
Ain't that the truth!
